Valley Health Opens New Strasburg Medical Office, Combining Primary, Urgent Care And Lab Services

Valley Health is opening a 15,000-square-foot medical office building in Strasburg, consolidating primary care, urgent care and lab services under one roof in a significant expansion of healthcare access for the region.

The facility, located at 33699 Old Valley Pike, will begin serving urgent care and lab patients today, with primary care moving in Dec. 9. The new building replaces smaller, separate locations.

According to Jacob Meza, Valley Health's vice president of ambulatory and post-acute services, the move was driven by a steadily increasing stream of patients as the region's population grows.

"The biggest thing is access to care. This is growing our services and our space. We're co-locating everything to make it easy and convenient for people," Meza said. "By making it convenient, opening up a little more space, bringing in new staff members, expanding our provider team, there will be a lot more resources for the community to be able to get care."

The new facility doubles the number of exam rooms for Valley Health Urgent Care Express — expanding from two to four — and includes larger rooms designed to increase comfort and accommodate family members. Additional features include expanded waiting areas as well as aesthetic updates such as improved lighting and flooring.

"The growth in volume over time has demonstrated a need for additional space to appropriately and effectively treat the patients that are coming to us to give us room to grow for the future," said Kristy Shannon, senior director for urgent care, employer health and retail pharmacy.

One of the most notable additions is an outpatient laboratory, allowing patients to complete routine and urgent lab work locally.

"Patients can come in after they see their provider or if they have an outside provider that has a physician order, they can walk in and have their labs collected and sent down to Winchester Medical Center for processing," said Michael Wilt, manager of lab outreach services. "Everything's nice and brand-new. It's going to be a great addition."

Wilt also highlighted the lab's expanded capabilities and the excitement he has in being able to use the new equipment in the space. "It's a lot larger, a lot bigger, more convenient," he said.

By consolidating services and bringing primary care, urgent care and lab services together, Valley Health will be able to provide a better standard of care, Shannon said.

"We're going to be able to offer a more cohesive approach to provide a continuity of care for patients that have needs outside the scope of just urgent care," Shannon said.

While the facility offers new amenities and expanded services, Shannon said the care team remains unchanged.

"It's the same great team that has been caring for patients at our current location," she said.

Valley Health officials said the building is designed with future growth in mind, allowing for expansion as the community's needs evolve.

"We do have shelf space that we've set aside for the potential build-out in the future as there's an increased need and volume in the community," Shannon said. "There's the potential for a full-scale urgent care down the road."

Meza likened the move to starting fresh and said the updated facility has already boosted staff morale.

"It's like getting a new home," he said. "We already had quality teams. This just gives a real boost to the morale."

Mark Nantz, president and CEO of Valley Health, underscored the organization's commitment to the community in a Nov. 22 press release.

"We are excited to house all of these healthcare services in one place and to give our patients and team members more space in which to deliver compassionate, high-quality care," he said. "This new building represents our commitment to providing healthcare that's easily accessible to the residents of Strasburg and the Shenandoah Valley."

Primary care services will be available Monday through Friday from 7 a.M. To 4:30 p.M., with patients encouraged to call 540-459-1410 to schedule an appointment. Urgent Care Express will operate Monday through Friday from 8 a.M. To 6 p.M. And Saturday from 9 a.M. To 5 p.M.
