Flu season is just around the corner, and that means it's time to get vaccinated against the flu. But despite how easy it is to go into a local pharmacy and get a flu shot, questions about what goes on behind the scenes abound. What are the flu vaccine ingredients in 2022? Are there egg-free options? What strains of the flu does the vaccine protect against? And how important will it be to get your flu vaccine in 2022? We have your answers. This is what you need to know. Why You Need a Flu Vaccine in 2022 Last year, experts warned that the 2021-2022 flu season would be bad, largely because they thought the flu would make a comeback as many people dropped COVID precautions. That prediction didn't pan out. Last year's flu season was actually more mild than many pre-pandemic flu seasons. This year, experts are prediction the same thing: We could be facing a tough 2022-2023 flu season. And there's reason to think that this time, they could be right. The flu season in the Sou

Flu Vaccines Given to Prevent Disease, Not Just to Support Pandemic Vaccine Manufacturing - FactCheck.org

Image
SciCheck Digest Seasonal influenza vaccines are recommended because they help prevent illness and death. Dr. Robert Malone incorrectly suggested that the annual shots are only given in the U.S. to support vaccine manufacturing in case of an influenza pandemic. Full Story Since the 2010-2011 season, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has recommended that  everyone 6 months and older  get an annual flu shot, with rare  exceptions . This is based on  evidence  that vaccination can prevent people from getting sick with flu and reduce the severity of disease if someone does fall ill. For the past 10 flu seasons prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the CDC  estimates that on average vaccination has prevented more than 5 million illnesses, over 70,000 hospitalizations and 6,000 deaths each season. Dr. Robert Malone, however, recently suggested that flu vaccines are given not because they help protect p

Why Does My Neck Always Hurt? 5 Causes to Explain the Pain - Prevention Magazine

This article was medically reviewed by Michelle Mielke, P.h.D., a doctor of epidemiology and member of the Prevention Medical Review Board, in October 2022. Sometimes moving your head just doesn't feel right. Whether you slept on the wrong pillow or sat in a hunched position for too long, neck pain causes can be obvious—but sometimes the reason for your hurting neck is more mysterious. While lots of cases of neck pain will be diagnosed as simply stress and structural discomfort, some causes warrant serious concern. But how do we know what's just a body ache and when to see a doctor? We spoke to experts in neck pain management, Medhat Mikhael, M.D. , medical director of the MemorialCare Orange Coast Medical Center's Spine Health Center, and Neel Anand, M.D. , professor of orthopedic surgery and director of spine trauma at Cedars-Sinai Spine Center in LA, to explain everything your neck pain could likely be, treatment options, and when to see a specialist. What is neck pai

An efflux-susceptible antibiotic-adjuvant with systemic efficacy against mouse infections | Scientific Reports - Nature.com

Abstract Scarcity of effective treatments against sepsis is daunting, especially under the contemporary standpoints on antibiotics resistance, entailing the development of alternative treatment strategies. Here, we describe the design and antibiotic adjuvant properties of a new lipopeptide-like pentamer, decanoyl-bis.diaminobutyrate-aminododecanoyl-diaminobutyrate-amide (C 10 BBc 12 B), whose sub-maximal tolerated doses combinations with inefficient antibiotics demonstrated systemic efficacies in murine models of peritonitis-sepsis and urinary-tract infections. Attempts to shed light into the mechanism of action using membrane-active fluorescent probes, suggest outer-membrane interactions to dominate the pentamer's adjuvant properties, which were not associated with typical inner-membrane damages or with delayed bacterial growth. Yet, checkerboard titrations with low micromolar concentrations of C 10 BBc 12 B exhibited unprecedented capacities in potentiation of hydrophobic antibio
