A measles outbreak in Washington and Oregon has led to some concerns across the country.

We reached out to five counties in our area to learn more about school vaccination numbers. Out of Pitt, Craven, Onslow, Carteret and Lenoir County public schools, only Craven released numbers. Those numbers indicate only 87 students are not vaccinated or under vaccinated due to religious reasons and nine for medical reasons.

We talked with a doctor at CarolinaEast Medical Center to learn more about the effectiveness of the vaccine in our state. He said when it comes to vaccination requirements in our state, only two exceptions are allowed -- religious and medical. All other children must be fully vaccinated to attend public schools.
