Regulations prohibit FDA employees from holding financial interests in any FDA "significantly regulated organization" and the FDA says it takes conflicts of interest seriously, but Peter Doshi, senior editor at The BMJ, finds that financial interests with the drug industry are common among its leaders. Doshi reports that nine of the FDA's past 10 commissioners went on to work for the drug industry or serve on the board of directors of a drug company. I respond to the Friday Dispatch.com article "Anyone who visited Fuzzy’s Taco Shop on North High Street advised to get hepatitis A vaccine." Hep A is an easy-to-prevent infection by immunizing with the safe and effective vaccine. Many children are receiving this vaccine now.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggests hepatitis A vaccine for those traveling to countries with high hep A infection rates. If Columbus is on one's travel itinerary, consider getting the hep A vaccine.
