Piedmont Medical Center Recognized As National Leader In Specialty Care By Healthgrades

ROCK HILL ― Piedmont Medical Center has achieved numerous accolades for clinical excellence from Healthgrades, one of the top websites Americans use when searching for a doctor or hospital.

Among Piedmont Medical Center's distinctions, it earned the Outpatient Prostate Care Specialty Excellence Award, placing the hospital among the nation's top 10 percent for Outpatient Prostate Care.

Piedmont Medical Center, located in Rock Hill, was also rated five stars for three services, including Coronary Bypass Surgery, Treatment of Pneumonia and Treatment of Bowel Obstruction.

Two numbers from the 2025 Report to the Nation emphasize the importance of the recognitions. From their analysis this year, Healthgrades determined that if all hospitals performed at the same level as the 5-star recipients, like Piedmont Medical Center, over 224,000 lives could have been saved and over 141,000 complications avoided.

"These achievements are a testament to our clinical team's commitment to high quality specialty care," said Teresa Urquhart, Piedmont Medical Center Market CEO. "I am proud of our leadership team for making investments in the latest technology and training our staff members so we can provide the care our patients deserve. These awards reflect the compassion our dedicated team has every day."

Piedmont Medical Center's achievements are based solely on patient outcomes, PMC said, which is what matters most.

As part of its 2025 hospital assessment, Healthgrades evaluated risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates for over 30 of the most common conditions and procedures at approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide to determine the top performers in specialty care.

Dr. Brad Bowman, Chief Medical Officer and head of data science at Healthgrades, praised PMC for its outstanding patient outcomes across key specialties like cardiac care, gastrointestinal treatment, prostate surgery and pulmonary services.
