Tiered Lab Benefit

The next time you need a lab test, talk with your doctor about choosing a Tier 1 lab to help save money. Most doctors are willing to use the lab that best meets your needs. You can locate and compare costs for specific lab tests through the Anthem website or Sydney App.  When searching for labs, the tier is listed.

  • To use a Tier 1 lab, ask your doctor to fax a lab order to your preferred Tier 1 facility or take a written and signed order with you when you go to the lab.
  • The order will have the information the Tier 1 lab needs for processing your lab work and sending the results to your health care provider. Results are available only from your health care provider; please don't call the lab for results.
  • Generally, the cost for a lab test at a Tier 1 lab will be less than if you had the test done at a hospital or the doctor's office, even if the hospital or doctor participates in-network.

Cerba Lancet Begins Preventive Healthcare With New Reference Lab

To reduce the disease burden in the country, Africa's leading diagnostic service provider, Cerba Lancet Nigeria, has expanded its operations to preventive healthcare with the unveiling of a state-of-the-art reference laboratory in Lagos.

This expansion, the management of the firm said, was in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and a move to boost the attainment of universal health coverage.

It noted that preventative healthcare helps to detect potential health issues at an early stage when they are more manageable and treatable with reduced cost.

Preventative healthcare, also known as preventive healthcare, is an approach that focuses on maintaining good health and preventing diseases before they occur. It involves various measures such as routine blood testing, regular screenings, and check-ups, making lifestyle modifications, and health education.

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Cerba Lancet Nigeria, Dr Olayemi Dawodu, said preventive healthcare remains a critical area of Nigeria's healthcare system that should be explored to improve the quality of life of Nigerians and reduce out-of-pocket payment for healthcare through early detection of diseases and better treatment outcomes.

Dawodu spoke at a press briefing titled, "Accessing preventive healthcare in Nigeria: Barriers, challenges, and the future", held by the company as part of activities to unveil a new reference laboratory in Nigeria.

She noted that the firm was at the forefront of addressing gaps in accessing preventive healthcare through accessible, high-quality diagnostic testing and wellness solutions.

Citing lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic, the CEO said disease prevention was not only better than cure but necessary for better outcomes.

According to her, by identifying diseases in their early stages, healthcare professionals can intervene promptly, increasing the chances of successful treatment and reducing the risk of complications.

She stated, "Our goal with this new laboratory is to create a transformative shift in how Nigerians approach their health. By prioritising preventive diagnostics, we aim to give people the tools they need to make informed choices that can ultimately lead to longer, healthier lives.

"Preventive healthcare is a fundamental part of Cerba Lancet Nigeria's strategy."

Continuing, the physician said, "In Nigeria, we face a unique set of health challenges, with many conditions going undiagnosed until it's too late. Our approach is to make preventive health an accessible and essential part of everyone's routine. This new laboratory is not just a building; it's a commitment to Nigeria's future and the well-being of its people."

The facility, formerly known as Clina Lancet Laboratories adopted the Cerba Lancet Africa rebranding strategy to strategically align with the global vision of being Africa's premier network of clinical pathology and medical diagnostics.

The rebranding was accompanied by a robust preventive health initiative, with services designed to foster early detection and long-term wellness in Nigeria.

Unveiling the reference laboratory shortly after the press briefing, the CEO said, " This new facility is equipped with the latest in diagnostic technology, offering services that include comprehensive health screenings, early disease detection, and specialized testing—all designed to meet the specific health needs of Nigerians.

"From chronic disease screenings to advanced infectious disease diagnostics, Cerba Lancet Nigeria aims to bridge the gap in accessible, quality healthcare and support a healthier future for Nigeria.

"Cerba Lancet Nigeria's emphasis on preventive health is especially timely in Nigeria, where healthcare systems are often strained by the demands of treating advanced stages of illness. Its expanded presence in Nigeria reflects the group's vision of establishing preventive healthcare on a global scale."

Dawodu pointed out that through its presence in 14 countries, Cerba Lancet Africa had set a standard for quality, reliability, and community-centered care, now fully represented by the laboratory's rebrand and launch in Nigeria.

Also speaking, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors, Cerba Lancet Nigeria, Matthieu Gogué said West Africa had always been a priority for the diagnostic service provider.

"With this facility, we're making a direct investment in Nigeria's health sector and providing resources that will elevate the quality of diagnostics available here. Our goal is to empower Nigerians to make proactive health choices by delivering world-class diagnostic services that emphasise early detection", he said.

Gogué stated that with a strong focus on public awareness campaigns, the firm aims to educate Nigerians about the importance of preventive health, encouraging individuals to consider screenings and regular health checks as vital components of their well-being.

He added, "With the launch of its Lagos laboratory, Cerba Lancet Nigeria reaffirms its dedication to innovative, patient-focused care in Nigeria, creating pathways to a healthier, more sustainable future through diagnostics and preventive health.

"As the doors open, Cerba Lancet Nigeria invites Nigerians to step forward in a journey of wellness, where prevention is key and health is within reach."

The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, in his remarks, commended the firm for investing in Nigeria's healthcare and for expanding its services from pathology to preventive care.

Abayomi described the company as a trusted partner, reiterating that the state government was dedicated to tackling the brain drain through the establishment of a Medical University in the state.

Other dignitaries at the unveiling ceremony were a former First Lady of Lagos State,  Mrs Abimbola Fashola, a former Minister of State for Health Social Welfare, Dr Tunji Alausa, members of the Nigerian Medical Association, among others.
