Manhunt Underway For Ex-cop Accused Of Killing Ex-wife, Girlfriend And Abducting Baby

A manhunt was underway on Tuesday for an ex-cop accused of killing two women, his ex-wife and girlfriend, in Washington state and then abducting a 1-year-old boy, police said.

Elias Huizar, a former Yakima police officer, is "armed and considered dangerous, and is likely to commit more crimes," the West Richland Police Department said in a statement shared on Facebook. He was identified as a suspect in two homicides in West Richland, the first of which occurred at Wiley Elementary School Monday afternoon. He allegedly shot and killed a paraeducator just as students were being let out for the day around 3:20 p.M., the Tri-City Herald reported.

The school went into an immediate lockdown and the victim was pronounced dead on the scene.

Authorities investigating the deadly violence uncovered the body of another woman at Huizar's home hours later.

While the names of the victims have not yet been released, they were identified as the suspect's ex-wife and girlfriend in an Amber Alert issued for 1-year-old Roman Huizar. Police did not provide the boy's exact relationship with Huizar, but local outlets identified Roman as his son.

Authorities believe 39-year-old Huziar absconded with the toddler in a silver 2009 Toyota Corolla with Washington plates CBZ474, and that he could be making a break for the Mexico border.

Police said the boy has brown hair and brown eyes. He is around two feet tall and weighs approximately 25 lbs. He has not been seen since Sunday around 5 p.M., according to the Amber Alert.

In February, Huizar was arrested for raping a teen girl at his home in West Richland. According to court documents obtained by the Tri-City Herald, Huizar sexually assaulted the unconscious teenager after they spent the night drinking with his 17-year-old girlfriend, who is also the mother of 1-year-old Roman.

The two teens then left in Huizar's truck and continued driving until they found a Benton County sheriff's deputy parked in Benton City. They also took Roman, just 9 months old at the time, police said.

When authorities responded to Huizar's residence, he refused to let them inside, prompting them to force entry. He was arrested on rape charges, but he posted $200,000 bail later the same evening.

Police said they are also investigating whether Huizar's girlfriend was of a legal age when they started dating. It's not clear if she was the victim found at his home on Monday.

Authorities have asked that anyone who sees Huizar immediately call 911. He's described as as being 5-foot-6, 170 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

16-year-old Killed In Durham, His Twin Shot Days Earlier, Mother Said

The mother of a 16-year-old killed Thursday tells WRAL News two of her sons were shot within days of each other.

Latoya Edwards said her son, Cassidy Johnson, was shot and killed around 4 p.M. Thursday in the 1200 block of Truman Street.

His twin brother was shot in the leg on the same street last week and is recovering.

Latoya Edwards said this was the second time Cassidy has been shot.

"He was good," Edwards said. "He was a good son. He was a good brother to his brother."

According to police, CPR was administered at the scene, but Cassidy died later at a nearby hospital.

Police said, a few moments after Cassidy was shot, a man was seen running from the scene with a handgun. The man left the scene in a stolen Red Chrysler Sebring, which was later seized by police.

Edwards has four sons, including the twin 16-year-old boys. She has lived at McDougald Terrace in Durham for a little more than a year.

Edwards told WRAL News a man fired shots Thursday afternoon, and her son Cassidy was hit while running away.

"My baby was shot in the chest," Edwards said. "They had to open my baby up to jump start his heart ... They cut up my baby."

Edwards said Cassidy was a smart and respectful ninth-grade student at Hillside High School.

"I shouldn't have to bury my son," she said.

Cassidy was one of five people shot Thursday in Durham.

Durham Police Chief Patrice Andrews became emotional in a Friday morning news conference to address the violence.

"I am sad," she said. "I am very angry. The are a lot of questions that I have about where have we gone wrong, either as parents, as guardians, in what we do, in what our community has or has not done to support these individuals."

Mayor Leonardo Williams also spoke, saying, to him, Cassidy's death is personal.

"The commonality here is that these are all mostly young Black boys under the age of 20 ... Both the victims of the actual act and the ones that are committing it ... For me, this isn't political ... This is a personal reality that really frustrates me," Williams said.

Cassidy wasn't the only young person shot on Thursday. Three people, including a minor, arrived at a local hospital with gunshot wounds related to an incident on Fayetteville Street and Linwood Avenue. All had non life-threatening injuries.

Javonnte Patterson, 31, has been charged with possession of a firearm by felon in connection with the Fayetteville Street shooting.

A third shooting occurred around 6 p.M. Thursday near the American Tobacco Campus.

Police said a man suffering from a gunshot wound arrived at a nearby bus terminal. He was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Anyone with information about the shootings is urged to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 919-683-1200.
