It's part of a growing partnership between the Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Defense. Officials from both agencies celebrated the Sabal Park clinic's grand opening during a ceremony on Monday. In the last year, the VA reported nearly 33,000 veterans in Florida signed up for health care. Many of them live in the Tampa Bay region, which has one of the largest veteran populations in the U.S. "It is always a challenge to have capacity meet that ever-growing demand, but it is our obligation to catch up to that demand as much as possible," Dr. Shereef Elnahal, VA Under Secretary for Health, said at the event. Citrus County hosting free rabies vaccination clinic for dogs, cats - ABC Action News

CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. — Citrus County Animal Services is hosting a free rabies vaccination clinic for all dogs and cats inside an area where a feral cat recently tested positive for the virus.

On Friday, the Florida Department of Health in the county issued a rabies alert for the Heatherwood area of Inverness. All cats and dogs in the affected area can get free vaccines at the clinic.

The clinic will run on Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 4030 South Airport Road, Inverness.

The center of the rabies alert is at the intersection of E. Heatherwood St. and S. Hammock Ave., and includes the following boundaries in Citrus County:

• North boundary - Northern part of S. Vision Circle and Trail 18
• East boundary – Lighthorse Circle
• South boundary - E. Needham Court
• West boundary - S. Brittany Path

Symptoms of rabies include:

  • Lethargy
  • Fever
  • Vomiting
  • Cerebral dysfunction
  • Cranial nerve dysfunction
  • Ataxia
  • Weakness
  • Paralysis
  • Seizures
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Excessive salivation
  • Abnormal behavior
  • Aggression
